The natural high-performance material for horses
Alpaca fleece for lasting comfort and a healthy skin environment.
Alpaca fleece saddle pads and pads gently hug the horse's body, ensuring a full, stable fit – without slipping or creasing. The anatomical cut offers optimal wither clearance and lasting shape retention – for maximum comfort and even pressure distribution.
Natural alpaca wool fibers distribute pressure evenly, have a shock-absorbing effect thanks to their crimped structure, and maintain a dry back climate thanks to their excellent moisture regulation – ideal for horses with sensitive skin.
L'Evoine saddle pads are not only uncompromisingly focused on horse welfare, they also meet a timeless design standard to the highest degree. The highest-quality outer fabrics combined with natural alpaca wool offer outstanding functionality and a classic look.
Alpaca fleece saddle pads and saddle pads can be washed at 20–30 degrees Celsius on the wool cycle with alpaca detergent. Please turn off the spin cycle. Further care instructions can be found here .
Questions & Answers
Is the saddle pad suitable for...
Yes. Alpaca fleece is naturally hypoallergenic, lanolin-free, and antibacterial , effectively preventing skin irritation. Unlike sheep's wool, alpaca fiber does not contain lanolin (wool fat) – a common cause of skin imperfections and clogged pores. The smooth, silky surface of the fiber reduces friction on the skin, prevents chafing, and ensures even pressure distribution. Furthermore, the fleece's excellent moisture management promotes a dry microclimate: moisture is quickly absorbed and wicked away to the outside, keeping the back comfortably dry even during long rides.
Yes. Thanks to the high elasticity and resilience of the alpaca fleece, the pad adapts flexibly to the shape of the horse's back without losing its structure.
This natural adaptability prevents localized pressure loads and gently compensates for muscular changes – ideal for young horses in development or horses in training progress .
Unlike rigid synthetic or foam padding, alpaca fleece retains its shape over time while simultaneously adapting three-dimensionally to movement. An additional correction pad can provide targeted compensation for uneven muscle tone. If you're looking for a corrective saddle pad with additional shock absorption , you'll find the right product here .
Yes. The structured fiber volume of the alpaca fleece ensures a light, natural adhesion between the fur and the saddle pad, without sticking or causing friction.
In combination with the anatomical L'Evoine cut and a precise back line, this creates a quiet, stable fit that prevents slipping and creasing.
The material reacts to pressure and movement with microscopic elasticity , allowing the pad to "move" with the rider rather than shifting. At the same time, its moisture-regulating properties ensure it remains temperature-stable , which also promotes stability – no heat buildup, no tension from sweat.
Yes. Alpaca fleece is particularly easy to care for due to its antibacterial and dirt-repellent properties . The smooth fiber structure makes it difficult for dirt, dust, and hair to adhere. Usually, simply beating it out or brushing it with a regular brush from top to bottom is sufficient.
If washing is necessary (especially due to the light cotton flannel on the saddle pad), it can be washed on a wool cycle at 20-30°C with mild alpaca detergent – without spin cycle. After washing, pull it back into shape and let it air dry.
